+ history / personality
Tabletop-Centric:
Nepione's family, victims of discrimination and prejudice based on their appearance, sought a better lifestyle for Nepione, the youngest of a family of four children and two parents. She was 'abandoned' at the House of the Moon in Waterdeep where she was raised as a cleric of Selรปne. With a fairly sheltered background, it was not until she was older that she learnt of how she came to be in Waterdeep and the origins of her family.
Seeking to be reunited with them, she plotted a course to travel the Sword Coast. Along her travels, she became acquainted with Miri Briarpaw (a druid furbolg), Piper (a bard kenku), Stan (an oathbreaker paladin dragonborne), and Judith (a rogue human). At best, they could be considered a team of misfits, with Judith having the most sense, and Nepione being, perhaps, too idealistic as opposed to realistic.
Please consider this immediate section loosely. Nepione as a character existed prior to BG3 and whilst I did play a BG3 iteration of her, by default, she exists within her own timeline without any connection to the BG3 cast.
BG3-Centric:
In her youngest years, Nepione was a resident of Elturel, along with the others of her family before banishment. Separated during this relocation, she was taken in by a travelling performance troupe who were making way for Baldur's Gate. Initially, she earned her keep by doing menial tasks for the locals, until she decided to enter the priesthood, which eventually paved the way for a desire to train in the rituals of the clergy.
Although she was convinced that Selรปne had called her to that order of divination, she had no evidence supporting this and Nepione's heart stirred more for adventure and a wish to one day be reunited with her family, perhaps even to see Elturel once again.
She means well and tends to possess the best of intentions, though sometimes can have questionable methods of doing so. Nepione has a strong sense of justice and what she feels is the right course of action, but she also possesses a great deal of naivety and doesn't hold the worldly knowledge that someone, perhaps in her line of work, ought to. Charismatic in a way that is unintentional or slightly sheepish, she has a silver tongue that seems to frequently allow her to stay out of harm's way without resorting to violence.
Although not a pacifist, Nepione relies on force only as a last resort, and would rather even utilise manipulation or deceit above it.
She admires and loves easily, thinking that most are inherently good, which can often lead her to following her heart above pragmatism. Nepione is fiercely loyal and devoted to those that she considers close, though to get to such a relationship is not a particularly easy feat. She doesn't much enjoy speaking about herself and is far more inclined to pry into the personal lives of others, making it, at times, a challenge to know her beyond her public representation.
Beneath a dedication that she wears openly, especially for causes that she finds are worthy, Nepione is somewhat a lonely soul, looking for a place to belong, and feeling a touch of resentment at the hostility that her people have often faced in the past.
From a combative perspective, though she can hold her own marginally, Nepione's incantations and invocations are frequently incorrect, leading her to incomplete spells more often than she'd like. Despite this, she continues to be committed to her charge and believes with practise, surely her skills can only improve. Perhaps it does not help that Nepione's reading and writing are below that of a scholarly level, and continue to be a work-in-progress.
She has a particular knack for alchemy, though aside from constructive salves, poultices, and potions, her personal knowledge on plants is rather limited.
