getting anyone's attention is not all that difficult if you're particularly determined to have it, the complicated part is what sort of attention you've garnered, if it's what you wanted, and if you can hold onto it.
but I think he sort of likes to be a bit annoyed. within limits.
you are a dear and terribly serious thing, and you should know that I appreciate you as much.
( athénaïs has a very find her own fun approach to life— )
the underdark was an unkind place, a hundred years ago. I preferred to find my own way, and it necessitated a certain amount of creativity. my sister has her own version of that tale, but I'm sure she wouldn't argue that confidence saw us through a great deal.
I know more about the Underdark from books than I do from firsthand experience, and not a lick of it sounds like the most easy life. But here you are. And as you said, your sister made her own way. I'd consider that impressive. You both have earned that confidence and the strength that undoubtedly took to make it here now.
[What was that about Nepione being serious? Couldn't possibly be.]
( nepione is, she thinks, more what someone pictures when they hear selûnite cleric than she is herself; her kindness worn on her sleeve with solemnity that urges some to mirror it back to her and sharrans, probably, to underestimate her.
a mistake. the moon has many faces. and it's pleasant, traveling again with a sister in moonlight. )
I'll keep that in writing in case I bump into her.
( guenievre's feelings on her sister's confidence and strength are—
understandable. and a conversation for another day. )
you do well with people, though, only in another way. I couldn't do it the same; it's only our natures.
I hope that you do. Maybe she'll appreciate the words as much as you do.
[Mind, Athénaïs never said she appreciated them, so maybe that's presumptuous on Nep's part. Or maybe she simply believes that fellow companionship wouldn't hesitate to be direct with her. What practicality would there be in hiding one's true feelings, after all?]
I don't know that I'm good with people. That might be a bit of a stretch. But I do think that all people and situations have to be approached differently. Maybe that's what interests me. Having to change how I talk to someone based on what I think they might respond to best constructively.
( guenievre, she suspects, might spurn the compliment only for coming from someone who likes her sister so well— but she suspects nepione could win her over. in time. and provided guenievre is willing to be convinced athénaïs has not much been an influence on her. )
you may not share my confidence, but you are determine, and I don't think any would disagree with saying it has taken you far, and may yet take you farther still.
That is true. Some might say I'm a little too determined, if such a thing exists. But I think if we don't try, then we don't know. I don't like not knowing how something could be, if that makes sense.
that, I think, would always have led you to adventuring.
( tadpole or no tadpole, there's a particular combination of determination and curiosity that will always, sooner or later, lead over the next hill to see what's on the other side of it. )
It's possible. Very likely, honestly. I enjoy adventuring too much to stop, though that really wasn't the original intention. More like a happy accident.

but I do find having my survival often depend upon it honed the skill rather well, in a past life.

[Because she's... not. Well. Depends on what it's concerning.]
But I guess confidence would come from those prior experiences.
